Ombudsperson for Financial Services
Mr. Chitrunjun Sowambur was appointed as Ombudsperson for Financial Services by the President of the Republic of Mauritius on 9 December 2025 for a four-year term.
A Barrister-at-Law of Lincoln’s Inn, he also holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. Mr. Sowambur has extensive experience in the banking sector, having held a range of operational and managerial roles. Notably, he worked in the legal and complaints cells and ultimately served as Group Money Laundering Officer at State Bank of Mauritius, a key function in a highly regulated financial environment.
He also has over ten years’ experience as a barrister in civil and criminal litigations, and has delivered professional trainings to audiences spanning from frontliners to board directors on anti-money laundering and other aspects of banking.
